According to Merriam-Webster’s dictionary, a mentor is someone who teaches or gives help and advice to a less experienced person. The mentor role varies depending on where one is in their practice and the objective. For the student, a WOC Nurse mentor may be a clinical preceptor. For the new or seasoned WOC Nurse, a mentor may be an experienced WOC Nurse who can provide guidance in practice or serves as a resource person. Because of this variation, the MEC has chosen to utilize WOCN®’s data bank to assist with identifying mentors.
We encourage experienced members to update their WOCN® profiles to include “‘yes’ for preceptor” then connect to following link: http://www.wocn.org/?PreceptorDirectory
