Mideast Chapter members all do great things every day to impact patient care while maximizing patient’s outcomes. The Board decided to highlight a member in each newsletter to share with us tips and words of inspiration they have acquired in their role as a WOC Nurse. We decided that our Mideast Chapter WOCN® Fellows should be the first members we highlight.

“INSPIRATION FROM OUR WOCN® FELLOW

Joyce Pittman, PhD, RN, ANP-BC, FNP-BC, CWOCN, WOCNF, FAAN

How would you describe your path in WOC Nursing that brought you to perform at such a high-level?

“My path and my career were driven by my involvement in the WOCN® Society. First, through my local region, now the Mideast Chapter, as Historian, then as Trustee. Through connections made at the MER, I then moved into the National WOCN arena as WOCN NCPC abstract chair, wound track coordinator, and finally as Chair of the NCPC. During this time, I was drafted into the WOCN Center for Clinical Investigation by Dr. Mikel Gray and Dr. Donna Bliss, where I learned about the grant review process, best evidence, and my love of research was born. This led to the continuation of my education as an Adult Nurse Practitioner (NP), then a Family NP, and finally obtaining my PhD. It continues as I chair the WOCN Quality Indicator Committee as we identify the value of the WOC nurse. My achievements all began by getting involved- locally, regionally and beyond.

“Thank you MEC for your support!
